Story Behind the Art: Originating in the historic city of Kerman in southeastern Iran, Kerman rugs have been celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship and refined artistry since the Safavid era. Renowned for their fine weave, intricate detailing, and extraordinary range of colors, these hand knotted rugs feature an impressive variety of designs, including floral medallions, Shah Abbasi patterns, garden scenes, vase compositions, tree-of-life motifs, hunting scenes, boteh designs, and elaborate all-over florals. Among the most iconic styles is the vase pattern, where repeating boteh or vase motifs are arranged across richly decorated fields accented by scrolling vines and palmettes. Kerman rugs are distinguished by their graceful compositions, architectural borders, and sophisticated use of color, often incorporating fifteen to thirty carefully balanced hues within a single piece. Requiring exceptional skill and craftsmanship, many Kerman rugs take more than a year to complete, resulting in heirloom-quality works admired for their elegance, technical precision, and enduring appeal.
