LoomBloom Charcoal Gray 8'2''x9'10'' Transitional Soumak Wool Hand Knotted Oriental Area Rug

$800.00 $2,400.00
Want a neutral rug that still has personality? This LoomBloom Soumak wool rug starts with a dark charcoal base and layers in ivory and gray medallions, then adds small flashes of gold, teal and olive, plus warm tan, for depth. The patchwork border echoes those shades more loosely, which gives the whole design a relaxed, collected feel. The weathered tones look gently aged without any fuss. Hand knotted from wool with a tight, hard-wearing weave, it handles family life well, including homes with kids and pets. Use this transitional Oriental rug in a living room, bedroom, dining room or home office to add texture and quiet interest that works with both traditional and modern decor, and enjoy a handmade rug that settles in easily, whether the day brings homework, playtime or a quiet evening. With its earthy palette, medallion field and patchwork border, it makes a calm base for a room and a handmade touch you will notice every day.

Story Behind the Art: Soumak rugs belong to an old flatweaving tradition recognized for a distinctive wrapping technique rather than conventional knotted pile construction. In this method, colored weft yarns are wrapped around the structural warps, producing a textured surface with an embroidered appearance and sharply articulated motifs. Historically associated with weaving cultures across the Caucasus, Persia, Anatolia, and neighboring regions, Soumak construction was used for floor coverings as well as bags and other functional textiles. Geometric medallions, angular flowers, tribal symbols, stylized animals, and repeating borders commonly appear throughout the design vocabulary. Wool has long been a favored material because of its strength, texture, and ability to hold varied color. Modern Soumak rugs continue to preserve the low-profile construction and graphic character of the tradition while adapting motifs and palettes for contemporary interiors.
