LoomBloom 3'5''x12 Charcoal Ivory Birjand Traditional Tribal Antique Vegetable Dyes Wool Hand Knotted Oriental Area Rug

$999.99 $2,999.97
Hand knotted in the Hamadan region of northwestern Iran, this vintage wool runner features a classic tribal composition with four large hexagonal medallions stacked vertically along its length. Each medallion is rendered in navy and filled with geometric motifs in ivory, coral, and teal, set against a warm brown and red field. Alternating ivory-centered and darker medallions create a rhythmic progression throughout the design, while smaller geometric motifs in red, teal, and brown fill the surrounding spaces with characteristic Hamadan detail. An ivory border decorated with geometric floral motifs in navy, coral, and teal is framed by stepped guard stripes that reinforce the runner's tribal character. Vegetable dyes enrich the navy, brown, and coral tones, creating a harmonious palette that has matured beautifully over time. Vintage and in excellent condition with no low pile, staining, or damage, this runner has been professionally cleaned and restored.

Story Behind the Art: Named after the historic city of Birjand in eastern Iran, Birjand rugs are celebrated for their refined craftsmanship, intricate detailing, and exceptional durability. Traditionally woven with a dense, luxurious wool pile, these hand knotted rugs often feature elegant all-over patterns such as the Herati and boteh motifs, rendered in harmonious palettes of deep blue, warm red, soft beige, and rich brown. Many Birjand weavers reinterpret these classic designs into sophisticated medallion-and-corner compositions, carefully outlining each element to create a balanced and graceful visual rhythm. Combining fine artistry with practical durability, Birjand rugs reflect the rich weaving heritage of the Khorasan region and remain highly valued for their timeless beauty, versatility, and enduring quality.
