Story Behind the Art:Indo-Kashan rugs are Indian-made tributes to the legendary carpets of Kashan, Iran, whose origins trace back to the 16th-century Safavid courts. Woven today in Indian centers such as Jaipur and Bhadohi, these rugs bring royal Persian aesthetics into modern homes. Most Indo-Kashan rugs follow the classic medallion-and-corner layout, featuring a central diamond-shaped medallion surrounded by dense floral vines, palmettes, and arabesques. Some variations display the Shah Abbas all-over floral pattern. Hand knotted at approximately 150–250 knots per square inch, these rugs typically use 100% wool piles on cotton foundations, with higher-end pieces incorporating New Zealand wool or silk accents.
