LoomBloom 5'5''x8'7'' Gray Ivory Moroccan Hand Knotted Transitional Wool Oriental Area Rug

$800.00 $2,400.00
Looking for a rug that adds pattern without overpowering the room? This Gray Ivory Moroccan wool rug brings a relaxed Transitional look with a lot of character. You get a calm light gray base, a soft ivory border and a scattering of tribal medallions in blue, gold and rust red that add depth and color. The rug is hand knotted from natural wool on a cotton warp, which means a solid build and a soft feel that lasts. Wool fibers need very little upkeep and cope well with everyday messes, so it is an easy fit for families with children and pets. Lay it in a living room to pull the seating together, in a bedroom for a cozy start to the morning, or in a dining room, home office or entry to add warmth. The medallions are bold enough to be the star of the room, yet the gray and ivory palette stays easy to live with. A hand knotted Oriental rug with a modern attitude.

Story Behind the Art: Moroccan rugs grew out of the climate and the nomadic way of life of the Berber tribes of Morocco. The tribes crossed the cold, windswept Atlas Mountains, and they made thick, plush-pile coverings to use as sleeping mats and bed coverings. Unlike ornate Oriental rugs, Moroccan rugs favor archaic images and symbols and a wide range of geometric tribal designs. They became popular in the West in the 1930s thanks to modernist designers and architects like Le Corbusier and Charles and Ray Eames, who used soft, plush rugs to offset the severity of minimalist furniture. Their flexibility and restrained elegance have inspired designers and homeowners ever since, and Moroccan rugs are now also made in India and Pakistan.
