LoomBloom Black Beige 10'1''x13'10'' Traditional Sarouk Wool Silk Hand Knotted Oriental Area Rug

$2,999.00 $8,997.00
Dark, detailed and endlessly rich, this wool and silk Sarouk is built around a midnight navy field and tied by hand. Rust and gold thread through a dense web of tiny blossoms and vines, followed by a red stripe and an expansive cream and gold edge. Black and beige tones add depth and balance. The fine weave brings out each leaf and bud, while silk lends the smooth pile a soft sheen, which is why light, careful use suits it. A cream fringe ends each side. For upkeep, vacuum gently with the brush roll off. Tan, deep brown and cream shades complement the navy, rust and gold. Choose it as a living room rug for a formal feel, a dining room rug for a refined setting, or a bedroom rug with plenty of depth. This traditional area rug, laid out in the Persian style, is a classic for dark, detailed color. Hand tying keeps the pattern crisp from edge to edge.

Story Behind the Art: Sarouk is a trade name for rugs woven in Arak, its neighboring villages, and the plains of Farahan in central Iran, an area with a long reputation for fine weaving. In the 19th century, Sarouk rugs often featured detailed allover patterns like the Herati and Gul Hennai, with about 100 asymmetric knots per square inch over strong cotton foundations. Toward the end of the 1800s, weavers looked to the grand carpets of Tabriz for inspiration and shifted to a more formal style, making factory-produced rugs with central floral medallions and exact symmetry. After World War I, Sarouk artisans broke from the medallion format with an open composition of graceful, separate floral sprays across the field, and that design became the hallmark of Sarouk rugs and a hit with collectors worldwide. Today, Sarouk-inspired rugs are woven in Iran as well as India, Romania, and Pakistan, each reflecting the lasting appeal of Persian design.
